Frequently Asked Questions
Recovery coaching and therapy can work well together, but they are not the same, and they serve different purposes. Therapy addresses the root causes of an eating disorder — it focuses on the WHYs.
Recovery coaching is more practical and focuses on the HOWs: how to talk back to your eating disorder, rebuild a healthy relationship with food and exercise, and cope with emotions in a healthy way.
Coaching provides extra structure, practical tools, and accountability to support your eating disorder recovery.
Yes — full recovery is possible. Many people have recovered completely, myself included. It’s a common belief that full recovery isn’t achievable and that remission is the best someone can hope for, but this view is not supported by evidence.
Your belief in recovery plays a powerful role in your journey. If you don’t believe full recovery is possible, that limiting belief will become your reality. But if you’re open to the possibility and give yourself a real chance, you can recover fully.
Anyone who has a diagnosed or undiagnosed eating disorder, or who has developed disordered habits around food, exercise, or body image, can benefit from recovery coaching. Coaching provides guidance, support, and practical tools to help you build a healthier relationship with your body, movement and food.
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to work with a recovery coach. However, it’s important that you are medically stable and not in need of a higher level of care. If you don’t have other team members involved, such as a therapist, registered dietitian, or psychiatrist, regular monitoring by a GP is essential to ensure your safety. Working alongside other professionals is also highly recommended to support a safe and effective recovery journey.
The length of coaching depends on your individual circumstances, current recovery goals and the type of eating disorder you are working through. A minimum timeframe that makes sense for evaluating progress is around 3 months, but many clients continue longer to build sustainable habits, coping strategies, and full recovery support.
Absolutely! All coaching sessions can be conducted virtually, so distance is not a barrier. However, it’s important that you are in a time zone that makes sense for receiving real-time support when you need it most. For example, if you are awake at night and struggling with eating disorder behaviors, it wouldn’t be practical to have a coach in the same time zone. It makes more sense to have a coach on the other side of the planet, where it is daytime and they can provide support in the moment.
My standard fee is £60 or $70 per week, which includes a 55-minute coaching session and one hour of ongoing text support between sessions. If you need additional hours of text support, these are available for £15 or $20 per hour.
You can also purchase a block of 4 sessions at a discounted rate of £220 or $260, offering a small savings compared to booking weekly sessions individually. As part of my commitment to making recovery services more accessible, trans clients receive a 50% discount on all fees.
